Computer Hardware / Digital Imaging & Printers / Capturing Motion

Covering elections tonight in Ohio and wanted to get some cool shots maybe showing workers weeling in the voting devices but wanted to get a sort of 'whoosh' effect to them showing the motion. Is this accomplished by decreasing the shutter speed? Or other tweak

Computer Hardware / Digital Imaging & Printers / Canon Rebel XT DSLR question?
|
on: June 07, 2008, 03:07:35 PM

Does anyone know how to use the LCD screen instead of the viewfinder to take a picture? I cant seem to find it in the manual, but I would like to know how to turn this feature on. Every other camera I have ever used had a button to press to turn it on, but I dont seem to find one on the rebel.

Computer Hardware / Digital Imaging & Printers / HD video player

Hi! I've been using Power DVD 7 for playing HD videos that I recorded with my Panasonic HD cam, but it lacks and makes it unwatchable. I converted the files so that I could play it in VLC - still in HD resolution. Does anyone know a program that runs smoother than Power DVD but without the need to convert the videos? Thanx!

Computer Hardware / Digital Imaging & Printers / DIY speed camera

Hey all.
This is my moms idea, and she wanted me to find a solution to it, so i need your guys help.
The road i live on is fairly busy and the speed limit is 40 km/h. The average car driving down the road probably reaches at least 60km/h. My mom want to get some stop lights put up, or get the speed limit better enforced because we have seen many near accidents and have nearly gotten into some because of the ignorance of other drivers.
I had the idea of setting up my laptop and my web cam pointing out my front window, right at an intersection that is almost never stopped at (it is a 3 way stop) and sending a DVD of it to my local town hall along with a letter explaining the situation and requesting action to be made on it. Then i realized it would be even better if i could get the speed of the cars as well.
Basically, the question is, is there any program that will allow me to get the speed of the passing cars with my web cam? If not, is it possible to make something that will tell the traffic speed?
Thanks for reading through this and thanks in advance for any help.

im going to pay more attention to the digital cameras on this forum. I have a canon S3IS and all the attachments. the one attachment im curios about and the water drop post caught my attention. its a close up lens. 500D (58mm). it wasn't expensive but was wondering if using would really make a difference. like with the water droplet?
you boys are going to send me on another adventure and learning curve. again...............thanks

Computer Hardware / Digital Imaging & Printers / Low FPS (Frames per second) built in webcam
|
on: June 07, 2008, 03:02:07 PM
|
|
I have a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop with built in webcam.
In 640 x 480 resolution, the fps never goes above 8 fps. If I increase the resolution, the fps gets even lower.
I called Dell and they said that is the way it is supposed to be, but at one time I had fps at about 15fps on 640 x 480 res. I don't what my settings were or how that happened.
Does anybody know how I can increase the fps, without having to lower my res to lowest level? I would really like to know. It is very frustrating to see my hand move 2-3 seconds in super slow motion after I actually do.

Computer Hardware / Digital Imaging & Printers / Scanner Speeds??
|
on: June 07, 2008, 03:01:40 PM

I am looking for a decent (not pricey) Scanner. I had an old Acer from over 10 years ago, and it was SLOW... I know most out today are probably faster, but I have yet to see any examples (say a 4x6 on average quality scans in 3 minutes, and on another one it scans in 3 seconds, etc..) __________________ System: Asus P5VD2-VM SE mATX Board 2 GB of Crucial DDR2-PC5300 Ram Intel Pentium D 3.2Ghz w/Thermaltake Fan/heatsink Sapphire ATI Radeon X1550 512MB DDR2 Video card Hitachi 500 GB SATA 2 Drive Power Up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case 450 W/ Power supply DVD Burner Windows XP Home SP2

Computer Hardware / Digital Imaging & Printers / Editing RAW Images
|
on: June 07, 2008, 02:59:16 PM
|
I just purchased a Canon XTi, so I'm fairly new to DSLR's and RAW formats. I'm trying to teach myself, so I opened up Photoshop and made some changes to the image using it's RAW editor, and I'm looking for some feedback as to whether or not I'm heading in the right direction. The photo was taken using ISO100 @ 1/200s under partly cloudy skies, using AWB. Before: After:
